Bio

Born 24 Oct 1958 in Washington D.C.

Began playing tennis in 1963 in Palo Alto, CA. Played non-ranked tournaments until 1969 when he became No. 1 in Northern California in the boys 10 and under singles division.

1970 Chip toured with Dr. R. Walter Johnson in Lynchburg, VA and finished the year as the No. 3 ranked boys 12 and under singles player (nationally) (Dr. Johnson was instrumental in the career of Arthur Ashe) and No. 1 in the 12 and under boys doubles with partner Juan Farrow (nationally).

 

1970-1974 Chip remained a top ranked Northern California Junior.

1976 Chip graduated from High School and went to Caņada Junior College in Redwood City, CA and played #3 on their team. He also finished #17 nationally in boys 18 singles tennis. That year had the likes of John McEnroe (#1) Van Winitsky (top 5), Mel Purcell, Tony Giammalva, and others and was a very competitive field with several future world ranked players all competing together.

1978 Chip went to Memphis State University with Mel Purcell.

1979 Chip red shirted at the University of Arkansas.

1980-81 Chip was All American at University of Arkansas, two time champion at the SW Conference as #1 singles. And in 1981 was the #1 seed at the NCAA championships.

1982 Chip was ranked #17 on the ATP

1982-1988 Chip played professionally

In 1988 Chip met Jimmy “the blade” Brown from Milwaukee, WI. Jimmy was a demonstration partner of Bruce Lee. Jimmy has several black belts and is now retired and living in Phoenix, AZ. It was through this association that Chip began to develop the Black Belt Tennis System.

1996-1997 Chip was employed with the Everett Tennis Academy in Boca Raton, FL and developed several of Florida’s and the nation’s top 18-and-under boys. He also coached several name touring pros during this time.

In 2003 Chip was voted into the University Of Arkansas Sports Hall Of Honor, the first tennis player to receive such an honor.

In 2008 Chip began finalizing the Black Belt Tennis System for world release which is now underway.
